Nine control panels of trains worth more than Rs. 200 million were
recovered from a house at Bandaragama following the arrest of a woman
(42) drug addict and a man from the Bandaragama area, police sources
told the Sunday Observer.
Mount Lavinia Police arrested the suspects while hanging around near
the Ratmalana workshop. After being questioned Police recovered the
stolen property at the home of the woman suspect in Bandaragama.
The Control Panels had been pilferred from the Ratmalana Railway
Workshop through a man made hole in the wall that surrounds the
workshop. The pilferage had gone on for some time, police said.
Meanwhile the Police were faced with a dilemma when they found that
the half-year-old infant of the woman suspect could not be fed with
ordinary milk. The baby who was used to be breast fed may also have been
addicted to milk tainted with drugs, police said.
The man arrested for stealing the Control Panels was wanted by the
Kalutara police for several thefts in the area. Police are investigating
whether railway employees were also involved in the theft.
