Marija and Lewke in close tussle for top berth

RUGBY: Observer/Caltex Most Popular Rugby Player/Team Competition 2011. Sri Lanka's fly half Fazil Marija is cruising ahead while CR&FC captain Dushan Lewke, his closest rival not far behind and full back Nuwan Hettiarachchi are continuing their race for the top berth at the end of the 5th week’s count of the Sunday Observer/Caltex Most Popular Rugger Player and Most Popular Rugger Team competition.

The two former Sri Lanka captains fly half Fazil Marija and Number 8 Dushan Lewke and the talented full back Nuwan Hettiarachchi who is at the moment out of the game, has still managed to gain popularity due to his skills displayed at the Asian 5 Nation competitions which was held in Sri Lanka a couple of months ago. Winger Sanjeeva Jayasinghe who is also a past winner of the contest although placed in the 7th position should climb up with more support from his numerous followers specially from the Hill Capital in the race to reach the top. In the team competition, Kandy Sports Club is well away with 12,902 votes to CR&FC’s 8,216.
