Loss making estates to be leased

The tea estates belonging to the Janatha Estate Development Board won't be privatised, State Resources and Enterprise Development Minister Dayashritha Tissera said.

He said that plans are afoot to lease 6 tea estates which are running at losses, to 30 years under the joint enterprise development scheme.

The Minister said that the Kolapathana, Levelan, Lulkandura, Mahavila, Nagastenna, Rahatungoda, Rookwood, Bopitiya, Bohill, Dhelthota, Galaboda, Greatweli, Hanthana, Hope and Kandal-Oya estate comes under the Janatha Estate Development Board.

We have taken steps to lease these estates to 30 years to local investors to develop them under the joint enterprise development scheme, he added.
