Army Commander visits Haiti
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army en route
for Haiti to inspect operational duties of the Peacekeeping troops
serving the UN Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) met Lieutenant
General Babacar Gaye, Military Adviser and UN Assistant Secretary,
Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
Lieutenant General Jayasuriya, during his visit to the official
headquarters of the United Nations as the first item on his agenda had a
one on one discussion with Lieutenant General Gaye.
Facelift for three jetties in North
Three jetties in the North will be developed to improve deep sea
fishing in the North. Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development
Ministry sources said.
Fishermen in the north said that they face inconvenience as the
jetties have not been renovated, the sources said.
These fishermen use small boats to collect the fish and supply fuel
and food items to fishermen in big fishing boats. MN
Three killed in airshow crash
A World War II-era fighter plane spectacularly crashed in front of
the grandstands at an air show in the US, with three people including
the pilot killed and dozens more injured.
The P51 Mustang, named the "Galloping Ghost," plummeted to the ground
at 4:20pm as stunned spectators at the Reno National Championship Air
Races at Reno-Stead airport looked on in disbelief.

Child needs help
Nine-year-old Nethmi Rasenka Rathnayake, of No. 75, Hospital Road,
Kaduwela, Ranala is suffering from a complicated heart condition and the
specialists at MIOT Hospitals, Chennai, India recommend the second
surgery, for which a sum of Rs. Six lakhs is needed.

Burgher Association marks 10th anniversary
The Burgher Association will celebrate its 10th anniversary next
month. The Association which was set up on October 13, 2001 by popular
showbiz personality Maxi Rozairo as its Founder President. To mark the
event Burgher Association has organised “Silver Mist” the 10th
anniversary, celebration Dinner Dance on Saturday, October 1 at the
Grand Oriental Hotel.
The popular group “Black” will provide the music for non-stop-
dancing together with “Outburst DJs”.
The entrance ticket draw will take the winner to the Holy Land.
Appeal for B+ Kidney
Thirty-six-year-old S. Wimala from Norwood, Hatton is suffering from
chronic failure of both kidneys and doctors at the Kandy General
Hospital have recommended a B+ kidney transplant. Her husband T. S.
Devan who works for a private security firm is seeking a B+ kidney donor
as there is none in their family and is also appealing for financial
assistance towards the surgery since he is unable to raise funds on his
