Men's VB team to Iran tomorrow for Asian Championship

Volleyball: National Men's Volleyball Team to participate at the 16th
Asian Volleyball Championship in Iran. The national men's volleyball
team will leave for Iran tomorrow (Sept. 19) to participate at the 16th
Asian Men's Volleyball Championship to be held from 21 to 29 September
2011 in Tehran, Iran.
The Sri Lankan team for this tour is as follows: Sameera Dissanayake
- Captain, Deepthi Romesh, Shamil Malinda - Vice Captain, Chaminda
Pushpakumara, Tharaka Abeykoon, Chanaka Madushanka, Janith Surath,
Morris Chaminda, Gayan Madushanka, Nilanka Sanjaya, Dinu de Silva, A.W.
Lakmal.
Manager - Lalith Pium Perera, Head Coach Kumara Vandekoon, Asst.
Coach, S.L.A. Sumith, Trainer - Kalika Wasanthapriya, Referee TC Hewa
Total of sixteen teams will participate at this tournament in four
groups. India, Afghanistan, Iran and Taipei are in group A. In group B:
Indonesia, China, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka. Japan, Pakistan, Thailand
and Kazakhstan are in 'C' group. The countries in group D are:
Australia, Qatar, Korea and Tajikistan. Sri Lanka will play their first
match on 21st September with China and the next match will against
Uzbekistan on 22nd Sep. They will meet Indonesia in the last preliminary
level match on 23 September. In the previous Asian championships held in
Philippines in 2009, Japan won the event, while Iran and Korea secured
second and third places.
