MCA celebrates Centenary with tourney starting Sept 21

CRICKET: The Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) will celebrate their centenary year by conducting an Invitation T20 Super Cricket Tournament with most of the top club and Test players participating.

The tournament will get under way from September 21 to 25 at the MCA grounds, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7.

Singer Sri Lanka who has been sponsoring many tournaments for the MCA, will give their fullest financial assistance along with Elephant House 'KICK COLA, Samsung and D.Samson and Sons "Avi" Cricket to make the event a success.

There are 8 invited teams participating, namely Sampath Bank, Seylan Bank, Unichela (Pvt) Ltd, Hatton National Bank, Edirisinghe Trust Investment, Sri Lanka Cricket Development Squad XI Under 19, Sri Lanka Cricket Development squad Under 20 and Combined Defence Services Team.

The eight teams will be divided into two groups and will meet each other in a round-robin basis. At the end of the round robin stage, the first two teams of each group will meet in the semi- final on September 24.

The winner will receive the MCA Centenary Trophy and a cash award of Rs.300,000, while the runners-up will be presented with a trophy and a cash award of Rs. 200,000.

The winner of the third place will also receive a trophy and cash award of Rs.100,000.

A sum of Rs.40,000 and a trophy will be awarded to the Man of the Final.
