KMC candidate pledges to improve city

Hafiz Marikar, the most senior UNP Municipal Councillor in the Kandy district, plans to create more opportunities for budding sportsmen of the district while having plans to convert the Kandy city to a greener city preserving its prestine beauty.Marikar is contesting in the forthcoming Local Government polls from the UNP for the Kandy district. Having served for over 22-years in Kandy, he seeks an unbiased administrative structure which looks after all citizens of Kandy irrespective of party politics, caste and creed.

"Our aim is to resolve the burning issues of the Kandy district. Kandy is one of the main attractions of the country which lures locals and tourists. Maintaining its beauty through proper planning is one of the main challenges that the KMC faces.

The modernisation needs to be done while preserving its historical value", he said.Being the only Muslim to be elected to the MC for the last 21-years he said the newly elected MC needs to address the garbage problem and also heavy traffic congestion through widening the narrow roads in the city of Kandy."One main issue in the Kandy city was non-availability of a proper vehicle park. We have solved it by constructing a large car park where over 1,000 vehicles can be parked", Marikar said.
