FITNESS PROGRAMME: The Ministry of Sports has brought out a fitness programme to improve the fitness levels of the staff.

This is being done on the suggestions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to facilitate the improvement of the physical health of the government servants in order to create a public sector that is of adequate mental well being.

The Ministry of Sports hopes that this programme will create a public service that is productive and will carry out effectively their daily tasks. It is hoped that by exercising illnesses such as high cholesterol, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases, stress levels, neurotic diseases can be reduced.

The fitness programme is aimed at maintaining strong mental development to bring out an efficient public servant. The programme will be on two days of the week for an hour each day. Each officer will be made to go through a medical check-up and a personal medical file will be kept for each officer and there will be checks made every three months.

This pilot project of the Ministry of Sports will start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday October 4 at the Sports Ministry Grounds at Torrington Square in the presence of Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
