SMS Holdings to build fifth factory
SMS Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, the market leader in interlocking paving
blocks will invest Rs 40-50 m to build its fifth factory in Batticaloa.
Construction work will start on October 14.

Chairman and Managing Director of the company Shehan Senevirathne
said that they enjoy a market share of 60 percent and export to the
Maldives as well.
The company will start exporting to Bangladesh in the near future .
Among their future plans are increasing the export market and be the
biggest player in interlocking paving blocks in the South Asian region.
The company started exports to the Maldives in 2008.
He said that they have four factories in Sri Lanka which includes two
in Colombo and one each in Vavuniya and Hambantota. “The factory in
Vavuniya has 60 workers at present but we will increase it to 100 in the
near future. The Hambantota factory has 80”, said Senevirathne.
The company recently celebrated its 10th anniversary and was also
awarded ISO certification for its products.
He said that he started the company 10 years ago with eight people
investing Rs 450,000 in a 40 perch land. At that time we did everything
manually and produced 800 paving blocks per day while we now produce
70,000 blocks per day.
The staff is qualified and experienced with over 40 percent having
over five years experience with the company. The company today has the
best equipment and qualified and experienced staff to handle any project
relating to landscape and construction industries.
