Aravinda, Murali in Games bid team

Two of Sri Lanka’s most respected cricketers Muttiah Muralitharan and Aravinda de Silva will visit St. Kitts, West Indies, with Sri Lanka’s Commonwealth Games Hambantota 2018 bid team led by Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal.

The vote to decide between Gold Coast, Australia and Hambantota will be taken at 3 a.m. (SL Time) on November 11. Seventy one countries and territories are in the Commonwealth Games Federation.


2011 Olcott Oration

The 2011 Colonel Henry Steele Olcott Oration organised by the Ananda College Old Boys' Association will be delivered by Professor Chandana Wirasinghe, Founding Dean (Emeritus), Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary, Canada, on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 4.30 p.m. at the Kularatne Auditorium of the Ananda College. He will speak on the "Role of the Individual in National Development - Ananda Can Show the Way".

The oration coincides with the 125th anniversary celebrations of Ananda College.


Awards for school traffic wardens

The School Traffic Wardens Awards Ceremony of the Mirihana Police Division, organised by the Mirihana Police Division and hosted by Lyceum International School, Nugegoda will be held on Tuesday at 8.00 a.m. at the Lyceum School premises, Nugegoda.

Inspector General of Police N. K. Illangakoon will be the chief guest on the occasion while Senior DIG Asoka Wijesinghe, Senior Superintendent of Police (Nugegoda Division) Deshabandu Tennakoon, Founder of Lyceum International School Mohan Lal Grero, Senior Police Officers and Principals of Nugegoda Division will be present on the occasion as guests of honour.

Over 400 school traffic wardens who have successfully performed road traffic duties will receive awards.


Appeal: Cochlear implant

Miss. Fathima Rushda, 3 years and 4 months who is diagnosed with bilateral profound hearing loss with hypoplastic IAM has to undergo surgery at the Madras ENT Research Foundation in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, a leading hospital in Asia which could perform the surgery Cochlear implant and Auditory Brainstem Implantation. She is the only daughter of S.Z. Hussain, Prof. Mohan Kameswaran will lead the surgery.

The cost of surgery is approximately Rs. 4,200,000 (INR Rs. 1,400,000 including hospitalisation.

Fathima Rushada's parents appeal to the public for help.
