Janadhipathi B.V. - National School Games hockey champs
HOCKEY: Newcomers Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya, Sri Jayawardanapura,
who have made good progress in the game of hockey during the past few
years did well to win the championship for girls by defeating the
defending champions Pushpadana Vidyalaya team in the quarter-finals by
two goals to one and semi-finals Yasodara Vidyalaya 2-1 and final Kandy
St. Anthony's Girls School 2-Nil.
The National School Games were conducted by the Ministry of Education
at Shalika Grounds Colombo on 17th, 18th and 19th September 2011.
The goals for the winners were scored by Imesha Lakshani and Sandali
Nishamani. Imesha Lakshani was made the Most Outstanding Player of the
Tournament.
Eight regular team players did not play in this tournament and some
of the junior players were promoted to play as replacements.
This year, Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya, Nawala crowned themselves
with glory after winning a triple in the Colombo Schools Hockey
Tournament: Under 13, 17 and 19 while in the under 15 tournament, they
became the first runner-up. National School Games Champion team is
coached by a veteran coach A. N. Perera, Mrs. Anjana Abeyrathna,
teacher-in-charge and Miss Lakshi Uthpala as assistant
teacher-in-charge.
