Children urged to focus on moral values
by Ananda KANNANGARA
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane called upon schoolchildren to
focus more attention on improving their moral values.
He said children, from a tender age, should be educated on moral
values in addition to their general education.
The Minister was of the view that many children lack moral values
which will badly affect their future well-being. He referred to the
recent incident of 13-year-old schoolboy M.C. Damitha Madushan of
Rambukkana Parakrama Vidyalaya being killed after another boy had hit
him on the head with a stone while returning from school.
The incident followed a quarrel between the students during school.
He said if schoolchildren maintain moral values, such incidents would
never occur.
Minister Gunawardane also requested parents and teachers to educate
children about the importance of developing moral values and urged them
to encourage their children in religious and extra-curricular
activities.
