Lankan fugitive nabbed in Canada
A Sri Lankan who was a most wanted fugitive in Canada was arrested
last week by the Toronto Police on a tip-off. The man identified as
Tharmapaskaran Sellathamby, aka Baskaran Sellathamby, 61, was wanted for
‘serious criminality’ after being convicted of ‘aggravated assault’,
Canadian Newspapers said quoting Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
officials.
He has arrived in Canada as a refugee claimant and has gone
underground when ordered to leave the country. The man was arrested by
the police on a tip-off and handed over to the CBSA.Sellathamby is the
15th Most Wanted Fugitive to be arrested from a list of 90 who have been
identified by the CBSA. Eight of the 15 have been deported from Canada.
The man was slated for a detention review last week and the officials
said he will be deported to Sri Lanka.
