The British daily, The Independent, has listed Bel Ami as one of
2012's 'unmissable cultural treats.'
The movie, based on the short story of the same name by 19th century
literary heavyweight Guy de Maupassant, is directed by the acclaimed
English theater directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod (Falstaff,
Salzburg Festival and King Lear, Royal Shakespeare Company). Producers
include Uberto Pasolini (Full Monty), and Simon Fuller, the creator of
American Idol.
The plot is an erotically charged story of ambition, power and
seduction which chronicles the rise of George Duroy (Pattinson) from
poverty into the 'beau monde' of 1890s Paris. In a world where politics
and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an
obsession, Duroy rises to power via the beds of the city's most
glamorous and influential women.
Sharing the hour-long soundtrack with Oscar winning A-list composer
Rachel Portman (Emma, The Cider House Rules), Lakshman Joseph de Saram's
top billed contribution to the much hyped Columbia Pictures release
makes him one of only a handful of Asian born creative heads in the
elite world of Big Name Hollywood.
The film's global rollout began with its glamorous world premier at
the Berlin Film Festival on February 17. |
