New Gama Neguma projects commence on March 23

The new projects for 2012 under the Gama Neguma program will be
launched in every Grama Niladhari division on March 23, Economic
Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said addressing the Kurunegala
District Development Committee meeting yesterday.
The new projects would come under the 'One Project One Village'
program where each Grama Niladhari (GN) Division will receive Rs. One
million for one development program selected by the villagers. Ministery
officials are collecting project proposals assembled by Development
Committees in every GN Division.
Villagers in six electoral divisions in the Kurunegala district will
be given a Rs. 674 million for development activities under the 'One
Project One Village' program.
At a cost of Rs. 1610 million rural roads, minor irrigation projects,
maternity clinics, multi purpose buildings, drinking water facilities
will be developed in all the GN Divisions of the Kurunegala district.
Alawwa, Mawathagama and Ridigama towns will be developed at a cost of
Rs. 150 million, under a separate program 'Pura Neguma' which aims to
develop townships.
In addition Bingiriya and Udubaddawa, Polpithigama and Giribawa
townships will be developed at a cost of Rs. 250 million under the 'Pura
Neguma' program.
