Chamod (99) excels as Royal-Thomian ends in a tall-scoring draw
In a match that produced an avalanche of runs,
the 133rd Battle of the Blues cricket encounter between traditional
rivals Royal College and S. Thomas' College ended in a high scoring
draw at the SSC grounds yesterday. The match produced 765 runs in
the first two days and ended up with 1,089 runs on the third-day as
the match was called off around 5.15 pm due to bad light with 21
overs still to be bowled. Royal were set a victory target of 242
runs to get in 23 overs. They were 22 for 1 in 4 overs when play
stopped prematurely due to fading light.

Trinity beat Antonians to break 26-year hoodoo
Trinity College broke a 26-year-old hoodoo and
also established a new record of outright wins in school cricket
when they beat their traditional rivals St. Anthony's College by an
innings and one run in their 96th "Battle of the Blues" played for
the John Halangoda Memorial Trophy at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy
yesterday. As pre-match predictions indicated the Lions completely
outplayed the Eagles. The Antonians had chances of saving the match,
but they threw away them at crucial times.

54th 'Battle of Babes'on March 16 and 17
St. Sylvester's vs Vidyartha: A keenly fought
out battle is expected when the unbeaten St. Sylvester's College
takes on Vidyartha College in their 54th 'Battle of Babes' which
will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on
March 16 and 17. Of the 54 matches played so far, the Sylvestrians
are in the lead winning 14 matches and their last win was in 2009
under Chanaka Colombage when the umpires awarded the match to the
Sylvestrians after Vidyartha College refused to continue the match,
following a stoppage due to bad light. The last Vidyartha Victory
was in 1967 under R.M. Lafir which was 44 years ago. Vidyartha has
won 3 matches in the series.
