Amethyst opens today
The Amethyst Resort Pasikudah will be opened today by Economic
Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa. It is a part of Amethyst Leisure (Pvt)
Ltd.
Google Maps refers ti it as one of the prettiest beaches in the
world. It is situated about 28km north of Batticaloa town, in the
Batticaloa District.
Set on 10 acres of the bay, facing the beach, it has 40 rooms ready
for operation, which is part of its first phase of operation which
comprises 18 sea view and stream view cabanas. All rooms are
fully-equipped. Infrastructure facilities are also in place for the
second phase of operations to be completed soon.
Atchchuveli woos 52 investors
The Atchchuweli Industrial estate attracted 52 Investors at a meeting
chaired by the Secretary Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small
Enterprises, S. Sivaghanasoorthy at the public library in Jaffna.
Over half of the investors were in the food and beverage sector with
the others being in the industrial products categories of tyre
manufacturing, aluminium-based products, wood carving, soap
manufacturing and cement-based products. “With the establishment of this
industrial zone we must increase the GDP contribution of the Northern
province and provide employment to the youth of Jaffna” Sivaghanasoorthy
said.
Priyanga wins Zen Estilo
The BIA Christmas Shopping Festival conducted during the 2011
Christmas Season by Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited
for the second year, gave an opportunity to shoppers, shopping at the
Bandaranaike Duty Free Shops with an opportunity to win a Suzuki Maruti
Zen Estilo in the prize draw.
Prasanna J. Wickremasuriya, Chairman, Airport and Aviation Services (Srilanka)
Limited, invited Associated Motorways (Pvt) Ltd. to be the main sponsor
of the event which saw an increased number of passengers participating
in the shopping festival.
Hotelier conferred Fellowship
Hotelier Prasanna Jayewardene has been conferred a Fellowship at
Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality
The Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality based in the UK invited
pioneer hotelier Prasanna W Jayewardene, who has 45 years experience in
the hotel trade, to be a Fellow.
Educated at Trinity College, Kandy and the Institute of Tourism and
Hotel Management at Klesshiem Castle, Salzburg, Austria, Jayewardene
went on to be trained by Movenpick of Switzerland, Hotel George V in
Paris and Trust House Fortes International in the UK among other places.
LAUGFS accepts water bill payments

LAUGFS Supermarkets Limited signed an agreement with the National
Water Supply and Drainage Board enabling consumers to settle their water
bills at LAUGFS Supermarkets.
“Through this Agreement we are providing more locations to our
customers which would bring more efficiency to our operations especially
collections”,said Chairman National Water Supply and Drainage Board,
Karunasena Hettiarachchi. “This agreement encourages additional customer
traffic to our establishments, providing the Water Board with a
ready-made clientele, said CEO of LAUGFS Supermarkets, Ravi Dhananayake.
CDB opened in Trincomalee
The Citizens Development Business Finance PLC (CDB) opened a branch
in Trincomalee at Central Road, Trincomalee. Here CDB’S Managing

HDFC Bank recently opened a branch at K.K.S.Road, Jaffna bringing the
convenience of banking and offering a range of services including

Seminar on challenges in Treasury management

Unilever launches Domex
Unilever launched Domex, a toilet- cleaning product. Asst. Brand
Manager, Domex, Dulanganee Matugama said nowadays housewives are
increasingly concerned not only about toilet cleanliness, but also about
hygiene. People in Sri Lanka consider toilet sanitation as being an
essential requirement. Domex has been in the international market for
seventy years under the brand name Domestos.
CBB’s English Language Teaching Project receives donation
The Council for Business with Britain’s (CBB) English Language
Teaching project received Rs. 250,000 from President - Colombo Cinnamon
Round Table 4 and National Secretary of Round Table Sri Lanka, Ranil
Samarawickrema. The cheque was handed over to the Chairman of the
Council for Business with Britain, Nick Nicolaou at a breakfast meeting
organised by the CBB recently. Round Table Sri Lanka President, Chandana
Aluthgama was also present.
From 2005, the CBB has been working through the British Council to
carry out the English Language Teaching project.
HNB conducts Trade Finance program

Pears Safe Hands renovates children's ward
Pears, the baby toiletries brand handed over the renovated maternity
and children's ward of the Welikanda Hospital to medical authorities
recently, confirming its commitment to needy children of this country.
The renovation was the eighteenth “Pears Safe Hands” project. Rs.
three m.
In addition to the renovation of wards and installation of
much-needed childcare equipment, a new children's play area has been
constructed and a complete facelift has been given to the children's
section. The handing-over ceremony was conducted with the participation
of villagers, Ven Thera of Welikanda Temple, Chairman - Provincial
Council, Commander of the Security Forces in the East, Major General Lal
Perera and Nilantha Swaris Activation Manager, Unilever and other
well-wishers.
