Lanka can handle own problems - MP Buddhika Pathirana
The international community should let Sri Lanka handle its own
problems, said Matara District Member of Parliament Buddhika Pathirana.
Commenting on the human rights allegations Sri Lanka is facing now, the
Parliamentarian said that the international community need to realise
that Sri Lanka can handle its own problems.
"On the other hand, it is important for the Government to conduct
itself in a manner that will not distort the country's image," Pathirana
said.
"In today's world we need to move forward in coordination with the
international community since the entire world is interconnected in many
aspects," he said. "Yet this doesn't mean that powerful forces of the
international community can interfere in our domestic problems," he
added.
The world must focus on human rights violations the rich and powerful
countries have committed at a similar level, in which some are
allegations and some have hard evidence to take action, according to
Pathirana.
"The Sri Lankan Government must take solid timely action without
creating space for unwanted international interference," he said adding
that the Government must now focus on implementing the recommendations
of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.
"And to omit international pressure the Government should ensure the
practice of accountability, Good Governance and Right to information
within the country," Pathirana said. - DY
