Nuwara Eliya Road Races on April 19 starting at 8.30 am

ROAD RACE: The Nuwara Eliya Road Race has been revived after a lapse
of three years by Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club and will be worked off in
Nuwara Eliya on Thursday April 19th commencing at 8.30 am. The official
practices for grid positions will be conducted on Wednesday April 18 at
1 pm.
According to the organisers the roads on which this race will be
conducted will be closed on the two days during practices and roads will
be opened immediately on conclusion of the practices.
This race was not conducted during the past three yrars due to
problems encountered by the organisers in getting permission from
relevant authorities, following a fatal accident during the mini event.
But the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club pursued its efforts and succeeded
in obtaining the required permission. The development of roads in Nuwara
Eliya town has also helped them a lot as track condition are very
important in conducting the races without which the governing body for
Motor sports will not grant permission.
A total of 12 events – 6 in the Motor Cycles and 6 for Motor cars
will be worked off.
Motor Cycles:
Standard 125 cc (2 stroke/4 stroke), Racing modified 125 cc, Super
Motard 600 cc, Racing/modified 600 cc, Super motard 250 cc, Super Motard
450 cc.
Motor Cars:
Group SL-N Cars upto 1000 cc, Ford laser 1300 cc, Ford Laser 1500 cc,
Mini 7 upto 1000 cc, Non-turbo 2000 cc, Group SL-A Modified upto 1050
cc. The modified class for motor cars has been restricted 1050 cc and
the total number of events too, has been brought down to 12. There was a
time in the good old days when even formula cars participated in these
races but they have now been stopped. |
