Tele-artistes denounce mud-slinging websites
"I
don't know much about websites. These websites talk mostly about youth.
I had to correct a news item connecting me with Nadi Chandrasekera. Not
only websites, but some sections of the media too are in the habit of
character assassination.
Websites alone are not to be blamed, as there are other media too."
- Anula Karunatilleke
Internet
and technology have helped civil society to reach dizzy heights. The
mass media is not meant to promote individual needs. It is concerned
with human rights.
Character assassination by these banned websites as well as banning
websites is politically motivated. Websites and other media could
criticise my politics. True to the style they attack my private life
which remains intact despite their slanderous campaigns. None has ever
debunked my political convictions. Hence their efforts are in vain.
- Jackson Anthony
These
websites have published fabricated accounts of my life. They could very
well criticise my career. What they made out against me are sheer
calumny. I feel they are now paying for their sins.
I wish the same fate befalls other mud slinging websites too.
- Damitha Abeyratne
The news item in the Internet that I do not pay my tele-artistes and
I am evading has caused me great pain of mind. I challenge them to prove
their allegations. Why should they sully my image? These people are like
village gossip-women. It is good that the authorities have banned these
websites.
- Saranga Mendis
The media castigates artistes. We have no faith in the media. They
attacked Nihara and myself. Again I was falsely implicated with Sherill
who I have met only once. Had there been unity among artistes these
things would never have happened. It is now time to forget everything.
