Among the 250 students from Gateway Colleges Colombo, Kandy, Negombo
and Bambalapitiya who won colours, merit awards and special awards at
the spectacular Colors Nite that was held in Gateway College Kandy, six
received the 'Dove', the highest award in sports at Gateway for
representing Sri Lanka in their fields of excellence.
Arjuna Ranatunga, Sri Lanka's World Cup winning captain who was the
Chief Guest of the Colours Nite, said that he was very pleased to see
the young sports stars being recognized and rewarded while they are
still in school, something that he was not fortunate enough to
experience when he was a schoolboy.
He congratulated the Directorate and the staff for the discipline
that has been instilled and the guidance provided to the students of
Gateway. This year, Gateway College had the highest number of athletes
in the Sri Lankan squad that took part in the 15th Asian Junior
Athletics Championship held in Colombo.
They included Nadeeshani Henderson (who won a Silver Medal), Keshani
Perera, Ireshani Rajasinghe and Thimesha Hewage.
Last week, Uvindu Perera was the Overall Champion (Boys) in the All
island Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Championship. |
