The Government’s focus is to double the level of IT education within
the next two years and to further enhance the quality of education in an
effort to keep pace with the international requirements because we are
now living in a technological era, Secretary to the Ministry of
Education Gotabhaya Jayaratne said after inaugurating the two-day
pre-conference workshop of the SAARC Teachers’ Federation (STF) in
Colombo.
The workshop was attended by about 200 participants from SAARC member
countries.
The Government is committed to making Sri Lanka a knowledge hub and
to minimise social disparities through a holistic approach, he said.
Almost 4.5 percent of the GDP is spent on education. Under the School
Development Program launched in 1998 5,000 primary schools and 1,000
secondary schools have been earmarked for development. |
