Postal services strengthened

Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga inaugurated several programs to strengthen the postal delivery services in the Colombo city and suburbs recently.

Minister Kumaratunga also opened a post office at Mattakkuliya. There was no post office in the Mattakkuliya area since 1997 due to the lack of proper land.

Minister Kumaratunga also inaugurated postal delivery services at the Modera post office in Aluth Mawatha. Postal delivery services took place in this post office after nearly 30 years.

The Minister, while addressing the event, said that postal delivery services did not function smoothly in these areas for a long time.

"Under the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, we regulated the postal delivery services in these areas.

"Postal services have since been extended to remote parts of the country.

"We plan to develop every sector important to community life, islandwide in future," he said.
