Ganesha Chathurthi celebrations

A series of programs has been organised by the Colombo Sri Sathya Sai Baba Samithi, commencing from 19 September, 2012.

The program commences at 4.00 am with veda-chanting and bhajans. The afternoon session commences at 12 noon and the evening program at 5.45 pm. The three daily poojas will continue till September 29 at the Sai Mandhir, Barnes Place, Colombo 7.

A special pooja on Lacharchanai (chanting the name of the Lord hundred thousand times) will be held at 6.00 am on September 23. A cultural program will follow at 5.15 pm on a brief episode of the Lord Ganesha on September 23, 27 at 5.15 pm and 6.45 pm respectively.


Sumana Past Pupils to meet in Colombo

The Past pupils of Sri Sumana Balika Vidyalaya, Ratnapura, living in and around Colombo will gather at the Punchi Theatre, Borella, on October 27, 2012 at 3 p.m. to pay their tribute to founder of the Vidyalaya, Ven. Henpitagedara Gnanaseeha Nayaka Thero, former teachers and the composers of the school song.

Sri Chandraratna Manawasinghe had written the lyrics, whilst music was by Pandith W.D. Amaradewa. Musician Ivor Denis has trained the students 61 years ago in 1951 to sing the song.


Josep Vaz 'Peace Walk'

The Past Pupils Association of Joseph Vaz College, Wennapuwa has organised a 'Peace Walk' on September 15 commencing 7.30 am.

It will proceed from the school along Colombo-Chilaw Road to St. Sebastian's Church, Katuneriya and return to school.The 'Walk' is in aid of an indoor stadium and an auditorium.


Awards Day on Sept 16

The Old Girls' Association of Fathima Muslim Ladies College, Colombo 12 will hold its Awards Day 2012 on September 16 at 2.00 p.m. At the Tower Hall, Maradana.

The Head of Paediatrician Department, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and Visiting Paediatrician, Harley Street Hospital, London, UK, Dr. Rayes Mustafa will be the chief guest.


Krishnamurti talk

A recorded public talk on 'Silence as the ground of the eternal' delivered by the late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at Anula Nursery School Hall, High Level Road, Colombo 6 today at 9.45 a.m. It is organised by the Krishnamurti Centre Sri Lanka Inc.


Child needs hearing aid

Baby Yehansa Chayangi of 205/A, National Housing Scheme, Wewelduwa, Kelaniya is suffering from acute hearing loss.

Colombo Childrens' Hospital Consultant ENT Surgeon Dr. K.D.R.A. Kirihena has recommended hearing aid which cost Rs. 400,000. In view of the needy circumstances her mother appeals for public contributions to be remitted to the Account No. 2192 0012 0018 439 Peoples' Bank, Tambuttegama.

 

 


Bone cancer patient needs help

Vikum Madushanka (20) is suffering from bone cancer and Senior Consultant Oncologist, National Cencer Institute Maharagama recommends limb salvaging surgery in Bangalore, India followed by radical radiation therapy, since it cannot be performed in Sri Lanka. The approximate cost for the surgery and radiotherapy would be around Rs. 700,000.
