
Niroshan crowned
Niroshan Dickwella of Trinity College was crowned Schoolboy Cricketer
of the Year at the 34th Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer mega awards
ceremony at the Galadari Hotel Brand Ballroom last week. He received his
glittering trophy from former Sri Lanka captain and current batting
coach of the Sri Lanka national team Marvan Atapattu.
It was an emotional moment for Atapattu too who returned to the
Observer Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year stage 22 years after he won the
prestigious award as a schoolboy from Ananda College, Colombo in 1990.
Tharindu Kaushal of Devapthiraja College, Ratgama was adjudged
Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year (Outstation) and
received his trophy from Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
Amila Aponso of St.Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa (All-island) and
Sanka Ramesh of Moratu MV (Outstation) won the runner-up awards of the
Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer contest.
A galaxy of top performers and entertainers, including world-renowned
Bhathiya and Santhush added colour to the Mega Show, along with
Dushyanth Weeraman (Dedunna wage), Umaria (Price tag), Voice Print (Gayu
Gee), Uditha Sanjaya (Aadare Hithenawa Dekkama), Anthony Surendra
(Kolaveri) and Nilukshi Jayaweerasingam (Alegra).
The mega show was hosted by the Sunday Observer in association with
the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association under the aegis of Sri Lanka
Cricket and the Sports Ministry.
The national mobile service provider SLT Mobitel was the principal
sponsor for the fifth successive year.
