UNP pledges, a mere farce -Dr. Amunugama
The UNP pledge to set up a people’s era in the country when it cannot
win even a local government election is a mere farce, said Senior
Minister for International Monetary Co-operation Dr. Sarath Amunugama.
He was addressing a meeting at Hataraliyadda recently.
Dr. Amunugama said let alone create a peoples era, the UNP cannot
even dream of defeating the UPFA which had recorded continuous electoral
victories since 1994.The main reason for this UNP debacle was that it
had alientated itself from the people. The party is rejected by the
people both in the urban and rural sectors. The UNP did not attract
youth because it had no democracy nor a positive vision or policy. Dr.
Amunugama said the desire of the UPFA government led by President
Mahinda Rajapaksa was to usher in a better standard of living for the
people and ensure their economic and social progress.
The government which had a clear vision was busy improving the
country’s economy. Infrastructure facilities were being expanded and the
country’s industrial and agricultural sectors given a boost. For the
first time in history, village areas had received modern facilities
restricted to the cities.
‘The people were grateful to the President and the government for
this specific service. Deceiving people through false promises was not
the agenda of the government.Parliamentarian Dilum Amunugama also spoke.
