KumbukRiver nominated for WTA listing
KumbukRiver, an eco resort in Buttala, has been nominated for the
sixth consecutive time at the World Travel Awards (WTA) listings. The
resort bagged the travel Oscar in 2008, as the world's leading eco-lodge
and has been Sri Lanka's first and only winner in the 'world's leading'
category, a spokesman for the resort said.
"KumbukRiver is also among the world's top 10 most unusual hotels and
one of the world's best destinations for adventurous honeymooners. One
of Sri Lanka's most unique getaways, KumbukRiver shot to fame on the
back of its primary eco villa designed in the shape of an elephant. The
international media continues to highlight its uniqueness as visitors
get to sleep in its belly," he said.
Situated close to Yala, KumbukRiver's 16-acre green sanctuary also
houses two other chalets. A two-storied luxury tree cabin on the river
front will open in December. The air-conditioned cabin will have a glass
front facing the river.
"The Elephant Villa and the chalets are essentially abodes
tailor-made for eco tourism enthusiasts who want an undefiled taste of
life off the beaten track. Electricity is used sparingly said
KumbukRiver spokesperson Movini Fonseka.
