'edoctor' - web-based health service launched
A web-based health service , www.edoctor.lk was launched last month
to provide medical advice and health information online.
The founder of edoctor, Dr. Harsha Jayakody said, "with a busy
day-to-day life, people seem to be neglecting their health and end up
with serious illnesses."
A spokesman for edoctor said,"The web- based service provides people
with a hectic lifestyle, an opportunity to obtain medical advice at
their convenience at the initial stage of any illness or any medical
problem.
With the advancement of technology, people can reach edoctor from
home, office, and even on the move via the internet. A panel of
qualified doctors, registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council will
answer medical and surgical queries 24 hours a day, seven days of the
week." "This service can save a lot of time for many people and also
prevent unwanted delays. There are several sub-specialties in the field
of medicine. It's not just the physicians and surgeons who look after
the sick. There are specialists for each and every organ in our body.
edoctor will not only be able to direct you to the appropriate care but
also find the availability of such care in the private and government
sector", he said.
"The edoctor service can help in early diagnosis and treatment of
ailments by advising appropriate investigations prior to a consultation
with a doctor which would save time. The service can also help with the
interpretation of reports and give advice on precautions to be taken
until a doctor is consulted," he said.
Dr. Jayakody said, "The edoctor service is not a replacement to
consulting a doctor in the traditional way. It can however provide
initial medical advice which can be obtained from home". Another benefit
is that you could obtain advice without revealing your identity.
