Former Royal Athletic Champion, Roshan Fernando promoted DIG
Former Royal College Athletic Champion, Roshan Fernando was promoted
as Deputy Inspector General of Police recently by the Public Service
Commission.
Roshan joined the Sri Lanka Police Force in 1982 as a sub-inspector
and is one of the youngest DIGs in the country. He has served as an SSP
in the police divisions of Chilaw, Puttalam, Jaffna, Gampola and
Nugegoda during last seven years.
DIG Fernando who has completed three decades of exemplary service as
a dedicated police officer, had been a versatile sportsman during his
school career. He captained the Royal team in 1979 with distinction to
win the Sir John Tarbat Junior and Senior Championships and in the
process set many public schools athletic records.
He had the honour of joining the first batch of the elite Police
Special Task Force (STF). During his career as a dynamic Police Officer,
DIG Fernando, has been commended by IGPs on seven occasions. Fernando,
who had special training in Israel, Japan and Singapore made an active
contribution during the battle against terrorism and was awarded, the
Northern Humanitarian Operation Medal for his services in the Jaffna
Division during the 2008-2009 battle against terrorism.
