First innings win for Sri Sumangala

Sri Sumangala College, Kandy gained a first innings win over newcomers Teldeniya Central College in their schools under-19 cricket tournament match played at Sri Rahula grounds, Katugastota yesterday.

Highlight of the match was the brilliant knock of 94 with 8 fours and 6 sixes facing 107 balls by Isuru Rangana for Teldeniya Central College in their second innings.

Isuru Rangana was associated in a 8th stand of 154 with Jayamal Herath who played a subdued innings of 83 not out hitting 11 fours, 1 six and faced 174 balls.

It was this partnership which insulated Teldeniya Central College from defeat after they were tottering at 95 for 7 at one stage with only 11 runs and with 3 wickets in hand.

In the first innings Teldeniya Central College were in a worse predicament with the scoreboard reading 35 for 7 at one stage and a 8th stand of 73 between Chamara Karunaratne 50 (3 sixes, 3 fours) and Isuru Rangana 36 which helped them to recover and total 161. If not for these two partnerships Teldeniya Central College could lose this match badly.

For Sri Sumangala College skipper Rohan Dilshan made a swashbuckling 69 with 7 fours and 3 sixes.

Sri Sumangala College were set a victory target of 181 in 10 overs and they scored 67 for 3.

Teldeniya Central College: 161 all out in 42.1 overs (Chamara Karunaratna 50, Isuru Rangana 36, Nalin Siriwardana 14, D.D. Yapa 11, Sribandara Dedunupitiya 3 for 25, Pabasara Perera 2 for 31) and 265 all out in 70.4 overs (N.S. Bandara 25, Jayamal Herath 83 not out, N.D. Siriwardana 14, Isuru Rangana 94, K.P. Perera 3 for 63, Chamara Attapattu 3 for 66).

Sri Sumangala College: 245 all out in 57 overs (Yasith Ambagaspitiya 34, Dhanushka Bandara 28, Rehan Dilshan 69, Chamara Attapattu 19, Pabasara Perera 32, T.P. Karunaratne 2 for 26, S.B. Nawaratne 2 for 42, N.D. Siriwardena 5 for 37) and 67 for 3 in 10 overs (Rehan Dilshan 33, Ahamed Muaaz 14 not out, T.P. Karunaratne 2 for 28).
