No external force permitted to destabilise Sri Lanka - Minister Wimal Weerawansa
Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities
Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that baseless allegations on alleged
human rights violations are levelled against Sri Lanka to destabilise
the country and obstruct its forward march.
The Minister said so at a ceremony held at Ariyan hotel, Ampara on
Friday to present certificates to construction technicians who have been
trained under Deyata Kirula Development Program 2013.
The Minister said the imperialists want to realise only one goal and
that is to defeat President Mahinda Rajapaksa by hook or by crook at the
next Presidential Election. Their aim is to have their imperialist
lackeys installed in office and create an environment in the North and
the East conducive to the re emergence of separatist tendencies once
again. Those who speak of human rights violations during the war against
terrorists fail to see how human rights are safeguarded in Sri Lanka
today.
Although the separatists attempted to divide this country during the
past 30 years, they couldn't realise their goal.
So they have been perturbed very much over it. That is what is
reflected in their theatrics in Geneva. Thirteen countries in the world
extended their support to Sri Lanka at Geneva. They stood by us without
any ulterior motives. They could clearly see the injustice caused to Sri
Lanka and the hidden agenda behind the UNHRC resolution moved against
us, he said.
Sri Lanka will never yield to the pressure of anti-Sri Lankan
elements active in Geneva, New York or Chennai. No external force will
be permitted to obstruct the forward march of the country.
When Sri Lanka's alleged human rights violations are discussed in
Geneva, even a single word is uttered about the grave human rights
violations during the LTTE terror. There was a time when innocent
civilians, pregnant mothers and infants were brutally massacred by the
LTTE terrorists, but the United States or any other Western country
didn't move any resolution at the UNHRC on these grave human rights
violations.
Those who cannot tolerate the ongoing development drive attempt to
disrupt the hard-earned peace after tremendous sacrifices made by our
war heroes under the political leadership of President Mahinda
Rajapaksa. When the country's economy soars to dizzy heights and new
international harbours, airports and express ways are opened,
resolutions are passed in Geneva to obstruct our development. When
changes are made to improve the lot of the country, it is distorted in
Geneva as human rights violation, he said.
