Three die in collision

Three people were killed on the spot after the three-wheeler they
were travelling in collided head on with a tipper transporting sand at
Sankapala, Embilipitiya around 5.45 am yesterday, Udawalawa police said.
The deceased were residents of Paranagama, Ellawela and Eheliyagoda
and were identified as A.A. Thilakaratne, 42, Sunil Goonawardena 45 and
P.R.A.N. Ajith Kumara, 39.
The Udawalawa police said the three-wheeler was bound to Embilipitiya
from Ratnapura and the tipper to Ratnapura from Embilipitiya.
It is believed that the driver of the three- wheeler had fallen
asleep at the wheel and lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the
collision.
T.M.Sarathkumara of Kiri-ibbanara, Sevanagala, the tipper driver, was
taken into custody by the Udawalawa police.
OIC, IP Karunasena Gamage and Traffic OIC, IP Saman Kumara are
carrying out further investigations.
Pak-Sri Lanka Friendship Evening on March 30
The Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association in collaboration with
the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo has organised a fun-filled
evening on March 30 from 4.30 pm - 7.30 pm at the Grand Oriental Hotel,
Fort, Colombo 1.
The proceeds from the event will be in aid of many welfare projects
of the Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association.
Arthur C. Clarke Memorial lecture
The Arthur C. Clarke Memorial Lecture 2013 will be presented by Prof.
Gehan Amaratunga, Professor of Engineering and Head of Electronics,
Power and Energy Conservation at the University of Cambridge on the
topic "Value Creation for Economic Development through Technology" at
4.45 p.m. tomorrow at the auditorium of the Bandaranaike Centre for
International Studies (BMICH premises), Colombo 7.

Brain tumour
Miss G.G.M. Teshanthi (27) of Karagodadedara, Wilpita, Akuressa has
been diagnosed as having a right CP angle tumour and Dr. Sunil Perera,
Consultant Neurosurgeon has advised surgical removal at the earliest.
Craniotomy for excision of the tumour under Neuronavigation guidance,
a facility available only at the Central Hospital is estimated to cost
between Rs. 2,000,000 (Rupees Two million), inclusive of hospital and
equipment charges and professional fees. He may also need extended ICU
care following surgery.
