Gateway overcomes Ave Maria to win All Island Basketball

Gateway College Colombo won the crunch points with composure, to beat
Ave Maria, Negombo 53-41 in the All-Island Under 19 B Division Girls
Finals at the Ave Maria courts in Negombo. It was a thrilling final
where Ave Maria led at half time 33-32. At the Semis, Gateway beat Asian
International School and Ave Maria beat Colombo International School,
Colombo.
The tournament was conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Basketball
Association and organized by Ave Maria Convent Negombo.
Gateway was unbeaten throughout beating Girls High School Kandy 56-30
at the Quarter Finals. In the preliminary round Gateway beat Bishop's
College 50-11 and Maliyadeva Girls School, Kurunegala 59-4.
At the Finals, Lihini Perera was the star and was named the Most
Valuable Player while Gateway's Captain Sandali Weerasinghe was named
the best offensive player.
