Ramith hugely talented in all aspects
The young, promising and hugely talented all rounder Ramith
Rambukwella came in for some unjust criticism by some half baked critics
for being picked to play for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh in the only
Twenty20 International at the Pallekele Stadium, here today.
The criticism stemmed from the fact that he was the son of Minister
Keheliya Rambukwella. Former black superman of Sri Lanka cricket, Sanath
Jayasuriya who captained the country and put opposing bowlers to the
sword in international cricket was quick to spring to the defence of the
youngster.
Jayasuriya explained the reasons behind the selection of young
Rambukwella, saying he was picked purely on ability and that his
father's status had not influenced his selection. That would have shut
the critics. But young Ramith, who has shown his dexterity with the bat,
proved that he is not short of witticism when questioned by a mediaman.
The questioning went like this. 'Who is your guide? 'Keheliya
Rambukwella. 'Who is your mentor? Keheliya Rambukwella. Who is your best
friend? Keheliya Rambukwella.'Who is your worst enemy? Keheliya
Rambkwella. 'Why'? Because of Keheliya Rambukwella I should not be
picked to play cricket for Sri Lanka. Like the exquisite strokes he
plays, Ramith put the mediaman in his place. It is hoped that the cricket
fans in Pallekele will give young Rambukwella a rousing cheer when he
takes the field today. |
