Rs. 166 million worth plant and machinery

Indian High Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha, Minister of Traditional
Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda and
Governor of Northern Province G.A. Chandrasiri participated as chief
guests at a ceremony of commissioning of the plant and machinery at
fishnet factory of Northsea Ltd., Gurunagar, Jaffna on May 6.
"The Indian Government has been a development partner of Sri Lanka
for a longtime. India has granted more than 1,700 million rupees worth
assistance to Northern projects."
The plant and machinery worth of Rs. 166 million were supplied under
the grant assistance of the Indian Government.
In past, this factory was able to produce only 60 metric tons of
fishnet products. Now it is expected that the production will increase
to 300 metric tons.
Mayoress of Jaffna Municipal Council Y. Patkunarajah, Indian Consul -
Jaffna V. Mahalingam, Political representative of Indian High Commission
Srivasrap, Jaffna Govt. Agent Sundaram Arumainayagam, Jaffna Divisional
Secretary Mrs. Sugunarathy Theivendiran and several officials also took
part in this event.
