Speaker to lay foundation stone on June 11

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa will lay the foundation stone for the new sub-office of the Civil Aviation Authority on Tuesday, June 11 at 8.00 a.m. at the Mattala Airport. Deputy Civil Aviation Minister, Geethanjana Gunawardena and Hambantota district MP Namal Rajapaksa will participate.


AURA photo competition on June 21,22

The Interact Club of Visakha Vidyalaya will hold AURA, a photographic competition and exhibition on Wildlife and Nature on June 21 and 22 at the Art Gallery, Green Path, Colombo.

All photographers are requested to submit their entries on or before June 10. There will be a separate section for students. Exciting prizes are on offer. Winners will be selected by an eminent panel of judges. A certificate of participation will presented to all participants. All entries will be exhibited at the Art Gallery and open to the public.

An entry fee of Rs. 500 will be charged from each applicant for a maximum of five photographs. No charge will be made from students, who could send any number of photographs. Entries that do not confirm to the rules and regulations will be rejected.

All entries should carry the following personal information. Name of entrant, Address, Contact number, Email address (if any), Name of school, Indicate if an Interactor (Interactor - yes or no), Certification of the school.

All entries should be handed over to the following collection centres on or before June 10.

Applications can be collected from the same centres Photography Society of Sri Lanka (PSSL) Lionel Wendt, Colombo 7, Siri Sara Colour Lab, Kurunegala Foto Station, No. 181, Galle Road, Colombo 3 (Inquiries please contact Harsha Maduranga on 0773160010).

Brain surgery

P.A.D. Harsha Anuruddika (25) of No. 376/3A, Pubudu Uyana, Kiriwaththuduwa has been diagnosed with Acoustic neuroma needing surgical removal at the earliest opportunity to prevent further complications.

Dr. Sunil Perera, Consultant Neurosurgeon recommends an excision of the CP angle Tumour under Neuronavigation Guidance, a facility available only at the Central Hospital.

The brain surgery barring complications is estimated to cost between Rs. 1,500,000 and Rs. 2,000,000 (Rupees one million and five hundred thousand and two million) inclusive of hospital and equipment charges and professional fees. He may also need extended ICU care.

His family appeals to the generous public to contribute to this worthy cause. Contributions may be remitted to A/c No. 049200130025748 of People's Bank, Homagama.

Annual YMMA Convention on June 16

The All Ceylon YMMA Conference will hold its annual convention and the Annual General Meeting on June 16 at 9.30 am at the BMICH. Minister of Economic Development, Basil Rajapaksa will be the chief guest while the Attorney General, Palitha Fernando PC will be the guest of honour.
