Broadlands hydro power project to be constructed
Minister of Power and Energy, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, issued a
statement on the occasion of the construction of the Broadlands hydro
power project.
"The Broadlands hydro power plant will be constructed and the
foundation stone will be laid on July 15 at the auspicious hour of 11.01
a.m. After the completion of the project, it will add 35MW to the
National Grid. This in keeping with the theme "Electricity for all at
all times". The project is an eco- friendly project and is expected to
be completed by 2017. Being the first woman to undertake the portfolio
of Power and energy, I consider it my privilege to be able to engage in
this project and it is a dream come true.
My belief is that we are now reaching an era where every household in
the country will be provided with electricity and will be able to light
up their homes.
It is my view that we should overcome all obstacles and provide the
much-needed electricity supply for the benefit of the whole country.
As envisioned in the Mahinda Chinthana that every household should
have electricity. The Broadlands project is in the right direction. It
is expected to that Norochcholai coal power plant and the Uma Oya
Moragolla Power plant will also be put into operation. We should try
hard to achieve this target. The implementation of the Broadlands hydro
power project will be a dream come true. The Government is attempting to
fulfil the wishes of all the people who elected this Government into
power irrespective of caste, creed or religion and lighting up every
household is one that is in the right direction." |
