Ceylon Tea promotion at food show in New York
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington DC with the Sri Lanka Tea
Board organised the Sri Lankan pavilion at the Summer Fancy Food Show
recently at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Centre, New York.
The Fancy Food Show has been one of North America's largest specialty
food and beverage exhibitions since 1955. This event featured 180,000
products of 2,400 exhibitors from 80 countries and regions.
Akbar Brothers, Basilur Tea, HVA Foods and Ceylon Tea Land displayed
an array of value added Ceylon Tea. The booth of the Sri Lanka Tea Board
which showcased the unique characteristics of the Sri Lankan tea
industry attracted many visitors.
Imperial Teas, Millennium Teas and Tealia also presented their range
of products at the exhibition.
Plantation Industries Deputy Minister Earl Gunaskera, Sri Lanka's
Ambassador to the USA, Jaliya Wickramasuriya and Director General of Sri
Lanka Tea Board, Damitha Narangoda were present.
A large number of US tea industry leaders, media personnel, key
officials of the US Tea Council and Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative
to the United Nations, Ambassador Palitha Kohana were present at a
networking dinner hosted by the Embassy of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka
Tea Board.
The Embassy organised a breakfast seminar on Ceylon Tea - Sri Lanka's
Gift to the World, at the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce.
Ambassador Wickramasuriya said ,Pure Ceylon Tea as a beverage had
numerous health benefits. "Ceylon Tea with its over 145-year history has
been world-renowned for its excellence, exclusivity, premium quality and
distinctive taste."
Ceylon Tea has an 18% share of the global tea export market, earning
over $ 1.5 b, he said.
A detailed presentation on Ceylon Tea was made by Priyanka Liyanage
of the Sri Lanka Tea Board.

promotional program on Ceylon Tea during the Summer Fancy Food Show in
