Northern Gladiators steal the limelight on the first day

The Northern Gladiators remained the only unbeaten team, as the quarter-finalists were found in the ‘first leg’ of the Carlton International Super Rugby Sevens 2013 on the first day at the Galle International Stadium yesterday.

The Galle International Cricket Stadium took a carnival atmosphere, as an international rugby contest took place and an enthusiastic crowd backed their favourite teams. Today a bigger crowd should be expected as the final stages of the tournament will be worked out.

The Northern Gladiators led by former Sri Lanka fly half Fazil Marija , included Damien Ratwatte,Vishwamithra Jayasinghe, Pradeep Liyanage and a host of foreign players like Tongan Villiam Longi, French club player Joeli Lutu Mailage and Australian Jordon Tupaon defeated Jaffna Challengers (26-12),Central Kings (49-7), North Western Blacks (19-5) and in the final game for the day beat Eastern Eagles (17-12) in their preliminary round matches.

The quarter-final line up for today which is scheduled to start at 9.30 am.

Sabaragamuwa Stallions vs Jaffna Challengers
Southern Sharks vs Northern Gladiators

Western Warriors beat Southern Sharks 33-5, North Central Typhoons beat Sabaragamuwa Stallions 19-5, Eastern Eagles beat Jaffna Challengers 28-14, North Western Blacks beat Central Kings 21-19, Western Warriors beat Uva Vipers 33-17,

Sabaragamuwa Stallions beat Southern Sharks 24-12, Northern Gladiators beat Jaffna Challengers 26-12, Eastern Eagles beat North Western Blacks 24-17, North Central Typhoons beat Uva Vipers 21-17.

Sabaragamuwa Stallions beat Western Warriors 38-14, Northern Gladiators beat Central Kings 49-7, Jaffna Challengers beat North western Blacks 26-14, Southern Sharks beat North Central Typhoons 24-19, Uva Vipers beat Sabaragamuwa Stallions 28-24, Eastern Eagles beat Central Kings 19-17, Northern Galdiators beat North Western Blacks 19-5, Western Warriors beat North Central Typhoons 19-14,

Southern Sharks beat Uva Vipers 21-9, Central Kings beat Jaffna Challengers 41-0, Northern Gladiators beat Eastern Eagles 17-12.
