Northern Gladiators steal the limelight on the first day

The Northern Gladiators remained the only unbeaten team, as the
quarter-finalists were found in the ‘first leg’ of the Carlton
International Super Rugby Sevens 2013 on the first day at the Galle
International Stadium yesterday.
The Galle International Cricket Stadium took a carnival atmosphere,
as an international rugby contest took place and an enthusiastic crowd
backed their favourite teams. Today a bigger crowd should be expected as
the final stages of the tournament will be worked out.
The Northern Gladiators led by former Sri Lanka fly half Fazil Marija
, included Damien Ratwatte,Vishwamithra Jayasinghe, Pradeep Liyanage and
a host of foreign players like Tongan Villiam Longi, French club player
Joeli Lutu Mailage and Australian Jordon Tupaon defeated Jaffna
Challengers (26-12),Central Kings (49-7), North Western Blacks (19-5)
and in the final game for the day beat Eastern Eagles (17-12) in their
preliminary round matches.
The quarter-final line up for today which is scheduled to start at
9.30 am.
