Five new meet records set up

The third day of the Sri Lanka Youth National Sports Festival ended with five new meet records set up in in over 20 women's 100 x 4 relay, over 20 men's high jump, over 20 women's 400 metres , under 20 boys discus throw, over 20 men's javeline throw and under 20 boys long jump events making it a tally of seven new meet records with the two new meet records set up on second day.

It was Amila Jayasiri with his impressive leap of 7.34 metres registered his name in the new meet record book earlier on the day. He erased the previous record of D.S.Priyantha's height, 7.20m set last year.

D S Ranasinghe of Galle brought fame to his district when he threw his javeline a distance of 72.42 metres to set up a new meet record by surpassing his own last year record of 68.75 metres. R P W L Dayaratne who won the silver medal also surpassed the previous record with a distance of 70. 04 metres.

Milan Dissanayake from Colombo district also entered his name in the new meet record book when he jumped 2.10m in the over 20 men's high jump. He surpassed D.P.wijesinghe's record of 2.05 m set last year.

A.P.Jayawardana of Puttalam district also set a new meet record when he threw 43.85m at the discus throw of under 20 boys. The 19 year Soldier surpassed record of V.Harikaran (44.00m) set in 2010.

U.R.Kumari of Matale district set new meet record in 400m women over 20 with 55.5 seconds surpassing a 13 year old record set by A.N.Sanjeewani of Hambanthota (57.9 seconds)

Sri Lanka National High Jump record holder Priyangika Madumanthi was beaten at the women over 20 high jump by Saumya Madushani Suriyampola of Kandy .Suriyampola cleared 1:72 m where Madumanthi had to satisfy with 1:67metres. Nevertheless Madumanthi's record of 1.74 metres set in 2011 and also equalled by her in 2012 wasn't broken.
