Manoj helps Tamil Union

Tamil Union were bolstered by Manoj Sarathchandra's brilliant hundred as the home team scored 362 runs for three wickets and declared the innings against Colombo Cricket Club on the second day of the SLC Division I Under-23 cricket match played at P Sara Oval yesterday.

Right handed Sarathchandra smashed an unbeaten 150 with fourteen fours and couple of sixes. Sarathchandra and Test batsman Kithuruwan Vithanage put on 120 runs for the third wicket and later on the former St Anthony's College, Kandy right hander shared another 130 runs for the fourth wicket with Sri Lanka 'A' all-rounder Pulina Tharanga, who was on 69 when Tamil Union declared the innings.

In reply, CCC lost three quick wickets within 15 overs as they were at 78 for three by second day's stump.

Tamil Union: 362/3 decl in 80.1 overs (Manoj Sarathchandra 150 n.o, Pulina Tharanga 69 n.o, Kithuruwan Vithanage 69)

CCC: 78/3 in 15 overs (Dinuk Jayasinghe 25 n.o, Mohamed Akram 28).

Shehan, Chamath excel

Moors Sports Club's Shehan Jayasuriya and Leo SC's Chamath Gunasinghe excelled at Braybrooke Place in another U-23 match yesterday.

Aggressive left handed Jayasuriya scored a brisk 90 off 84 deliveries with nine fours and four sixes. Thenuka Dhanjaya took six for 37 and Moors were bowled out for 218 in their first innings.

Leo SC were pathetically dismissed for 132 as left arm leg spinner Chamath Gunasinghe ripped through the Leo SC' batting order taking seven for 48. Moors were at 37 for no loss at second day's stump in their second innings.

Moors: 218 in 50.3 overs (Shehan Jayasuriya 90, Kaushalya Gajasinghe 44, Thilakshila de Silva 41, Thenuka Dhananjaya 6/37, Kavindu Silva 2/52) and 37/0 in 6 overs (Shehan Jayasuriya 27 n.o)

Leo SC: 132 in 36.2 overs (Udara Munasinghe 31, Aruna Dharmasena 30, Janishka Premasinghe 24, Chamath Gunasinghe 7/49)

Tharindu Kaushal took six for 50 against Navy Sports Club in their Under-23 match played at NCC grounds yesterday. Navy were bowled for 104 and NCC were 153 for four loss.

Navy: 104 in 49.5 overs (Anushka Perera 18, Tharindu Kaushal 6/50, Dushmantha Chameera 3/21)

Lakshan wrecks Colts

Lakshan Madusanka of Sri Lanka Army took a five wicket haul to restrict Colts Cricket Club's first innings to 161 in their match played at Colts grounds yesterday. At the end of the second day, Army were 160 runs for six wickets.

Colts: 161 in 44.1 overs (Shehan Fernando 41, Chathuranga Kumara 21, Bhanuka Rajapaksa 20, Lakshan Madushanka 5/40, Anushka Samaratunga 2/24)

Army: 160/6 in 51 overs (Priyantha Kumara 47, Lakshitha Madushan 39, Suresh Peiris 22, Chathuranga Kumara 2/22, Shehan Fernando 2/11)

Udara - 84 not out

Udadara Jayasundara was unbeaten on 84 as Ragama Cricket Club are in a commanding position against Moratuwa Sports Club in another Under-23 match played at Bloomfield grounds yesterday. Right handed Jayasundara has cracked seven sixes and three fours and shared a 124-run opening stand in just 18 overs so far.

Moratuwa SC: 112 in 42.3 overs (Sangeeth Cooray 18, Charith Rajapaksa 18 n.o, Amila Aponso 4/23, Chathura Peiris 2/19, Dhananjaya de Silva 2/29)

Ragama CC: 124/0 in 18 overs (Udara Jayasundara 84 n.o, Dhananjaya de Silva 36 n.o) Bloomfield lost six wickets for just 62 runs against Air Force, who totalled 193 runs for the first innings at Riffle Green yesterday.
