The reconstructed track of the Northern Railway Line project of 252
km route is being implemented by Ircon International Limited, a
Government company under the Ministry of Railways, India.
The track between Omanthai and Killinochchi will be dedicated to the
nation by President Mahinda Rajapaksa this month in Killinochchi.
The railway tracks from Omanthai to Kankesanthurai and Medawachchiya
to Talaimannar were destroyed during the war against terrorism.
The Government of India has extended its support to the Government of
Sri Lanka to rebuild the 252 km track along with signaling and
telecommunication work under Indian lines of credit.
It has been designed with a speed potential of 120 kmph.
Rail joints are minimised using modern welding technology.
Pre-stressed concrete sleepers have been used to lay the track. Local
manpower and agencies have been deployed to generate employment and
skills development.
The project is due to be completed in phases and all phases are
progressing well," a company spokesman said. |
