Dear children,

World Post Day will be celebrated on October 9. To commemorate this day, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication has organised a series of competitions for different grades under various age groups. In our issue this week we have published details of the competitions. World Post Day needs to be commemorated because there are very few people who write letters because advanced technology has enabled emails and the Short Message System.

However, letters have a different take altogether. Many people of the older generation will recall with nostalgia what writing letters in their time meant and how people used to look forward to receiving a letter from a child or may be a dear friend. There are people who collect these letters and keep reading them over and over again. And the postal system enabled this form of communication. However, now writing letters is a dying art.

Bye for now,

Aunty Merle.
