Vigneswaran may know law but not the PC Act - Azwer
Muslims in the East nor in the rest of the island would ever agree
for the merger of the North and the East again.
Therefore, the TNA's call for a merged council in its manifesto and
for a joint North-East Council would be totally rejected by voters, A.
H. M. Azwer, MP, Member Parliament Council said addressing a Jana Hamuwa
at Katugastota over the weekend.
Azwer said TNA Chief Ministerial candidate C. V. Vigneswaran may have
known his law but is ignorant of the Provincial Council Act.
In a press conference he had addressed in Jaffna he demands Police,
Land and other powers only for the North. In the same breath he says
other Provincial Councils need not be given these powers since they are
all governed by the ruling party.
He must be told that devolution of powers means that all Provincial
Councils must be given the same privileges and powers. The Provincial
Council Act would not permit certain powers to be given only to the
North, but not to the rest. Mr Vigneswaran has by his totally unaccepted
pronouncement exposed his ignorance in this matter and he has become a
laughing stock even among the Tamils.
"Even a small child would ask where is the logic in Vigneswaran's
statement when he wants police and land powers to the Northern Province
but not to the rest of the provincial council areas.
There is a saying in Tamil that even an elephant would miss its
steps, and Vigneswaran alas has messed up his steps and now stands
exposed before his countrymen," he said.
"The TNA has in its manifesto unequivocally stated that they would
pave the way for an Eelam after the Northern Provincial Elections. He is
day-dreaming.
Not even what the gun trotting Prabhakaran could not achieve, this
so-called legal luminary is trying to achieve. Vingeswaran has descended
from the sublime to the ridiculous," Azwer said. |
