Mega housing project launched in Waligamam

The Government has launched a mega housing project jointly with the
Indian Government in Waligamam North Divisional Secretariat Division in
Jaffna consisting of 1,000 housing units. Construction work on 40
housing units has already been completed and the others are in progress,
Waligamam North Divisional Secretary Kanagaraja Sri Mohanan told the
Sunday Observer.
He said that beneficiary families have been selected on a point
scheme. A beneficiary family should obtain 10 points to claim a housing
unit in the scheme. Each selected family will be granted Rs. 550,000 to
build their houses. Those who receive less than 10 points will not be
entitled and an optional arrangement will be made for them.
Already 1,327 beneficiary families have been selected from the
Waligamam North Divisional Secretariat Division, he said.
The Kandaselvapuram GS Division and Mavittapuram South, Nakuleswaram,
Kollankalladdy, Ilawalai, Witthagapuram have been included under the
front phase and Kurumbacitti Grama Niladhari Divisions in the second
phase of the project.
Eight Grama Niladhari Divisions including Palaviyankadu South and
North, Ilawalai South West, Wasawalan West and East, Thurgapuram and
Thellippalai come under the first phase. Beneficiaries from 17 Grama
Niladhari Divisions in the Waligamam North Divisional Secretariat
Division will benefit by the housing project, he said.
Moves are under way to build 2,200 houses in the Waligaman North
Divisional Secretariat Division. The Land Reclamation and Development
Corporation is the implementing agency of the project. |
