Fifty eight boys schools and girls schools in Blue and Gold Hockey

HOCKEY: Over 58 boys and girls schools from hockey playing schools of
the Island will participate at the popular Blue and Gold Seven-a-Side
Invitation Hockey Championship organised by the Royal College Old Boys
and the Royal College Hockey Club on October 12 and 13 at the Royal
College Sports Complex grounds at Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha, Colombo
7.
The championship is sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka for the eleventh
consecutive year and Esoft Metro Campus are the co-sponsors for the
event.
Almost 600 players (boys and girls) will take part in the two day
tournament where they will compete for the Cup, Plate and Bowl
championships.
Dr. Jayantha Senanayake, the Treasurer of the Royal College Hockey
Club said at a press briefing held at the Royal College, Skill Centre,
that this tournament has proved to be one of the successful schools
hockey tournaments which provides both glamour and stiff Competition for
the progress of the game.
Mahesh Wijewardena, the Director/Marketing Commercial Singer Sri
Lanka said that he should congratulate the Royal College Hockey Club for
conducting the tournament for eleven consecutive years, which is no easy
task as the tournament has gone from strength to strength. He further
went on to say that Singer was not only a sponsor, but a developer and a
promoter which has sponsored many events from school, mercantile and
club levels. As a sponsor, Singer is keen in promoting true
sportsmanship.
The Principal of Royal College Upali Gunasekera, said that he was
glad to see the continuation of the tournament, although at times it
looked a difficult task.
But with Esoft Metro Campus joining hands with Singer, it was made
possible to go on with the tournament.
Nishan Sembacuttiaratchy the COO/Director, Esoft International
Education also spoke.
