Brandix powers Robofest 2013
The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) and Mahinda
College, Galle emerged winners at Robofest 2013, an event supported by
apparel exporter Brandix as the main sponsor.
More than 60 robotic applications competed in the university
category, while schools submitted over 100 applications at this annual
robotic competition organised by the Department of Electrical and
Computer Engineering of SLIIT.
Chief Guest, Brandix Director, Udena Wickremesooriya said the Group
actively supports robotics-related competitions because it is convinced
that technological advancements would soon change industries and the way
in which companies operate.
Brandix is committed to beinvolved in this process at an early stage
to truly drive success, he said, urging participants not to stop at this
competition, but to take risks, innovate and keep pushing the
boundaries.
He said that Brandix would be launching an 'incubator' in the near
future which would facilitate and foster innovation in Sri Lanka.
The first prizes in the university and school categories at Robofest
2013 were presented to the winners by Wickremesooriya.
In the university segment, SLIIT took first and third places, while
ICBT Kandy was placed second.
In the school segment, St. Thomas' College, Matara came second and
St. Mary's College, Kegalle, third. The single prize awarded in the
'Open' category went to New Techno Lanka Engineers (Pvt) Ltd.
Robofest is conducted annually by SLIIT primarily to promote the
application of problem solving skills and skills honed from modules
taught in undergraduate studies, such as embedded systems design,
embedded systems engineering and microprocessor based systems, digital
and analog electronics, control systems, robotics and software
engineering and any type of knowledge acquired by the other
participants.
It was also an opportunity for the industry to demonstrate
locally-developed technologies. |
