Gem and Jewellery Fair concludes on high note

The 53rd edition of the Bangkok Gem and Jewellery Fair concluded
recently at the Impact Exhibition Hall, Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok.

The Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair is considered to be the first
large fair of the year in the international gem and jewellery calendar
and it has established itself as a world-class event.
The fair had over 30,000 visitors from more than 130 countries,
including buyers and exhibitors from Dubai, Russia, China, Bahrain,
Brazil, Canada and Sri Lanka.
The bi-annual event is regarded as the world's fifth and Asia's
second largest trade show in the gem and jewellery market.
The fair boasts of gross export revenue exceeding Bt 400,000 million
or US $12.8 billion.
Foreign exhibitors will be allowed to sell gems and jewellery from
other countries duty-free, while local exhibitors can reduce their
selling prices cutting down on imported parts and product costs.
Zam Gems, one of the participants from Sri Lanka and its Managing
Director Ashan Refai said that this event was one of the leading events
for gemstone industry in the region. Since, Thailand is the hub in the
region Sri Lankan could learn a lot of things from the exhibition. He
said that the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Authority always supports the
sector to promote our gemstones in the export market.
Another local participant Gamini Gems, Managing Director Gamini
Ariyathilake said that this exhibition helped local exporters to find
new buyers and enhance business contacts in a big way, he said.
Being a biannual event it will be held again from September 6 to 10
this year at Bangkok's Impact Exhibition and Convention Center and is
expected to draw tens of thousands of buyers from around the world. |
