Excise BSO earned Rs.11,740,600 from fines

The Excise Department Bureau of Special Operations earned Rs.11, 740,
600 from fines imposed on detections and raids conducted in 2013.
The Bureau conducted 1, 618 cases from January 1 to December 31, 2013
including raids on illicit liquor distilleries, sale and possession of
Kasippu, plantation, possession and sale of Ganja and illicit
cigarettes. Out of the lot 607 Technical Crime Reports (TCR) or Excise
license and conditions violations have been reported through out the
country. These included sale and possession of authorised liquor,
violating license conditions, sale of foreign liquor violating excise
laws.
Few of the major cases conducted by the Bureau was the detection of
sale of foreign liquor by the popular online marketing sites which were
imposed a fine of Rs.400, 000, an illicit liquor raid in Ja-Ela followed
by a fine of Rs.100, 000 and Rs.70, 000 fine imposed for selling
authorised liquor violating license in Galle.The cases were conducted by
OIC Excise BSO Inspector Rosmand Fernando under the supervision of
Director Excise BSO Superintendent Rohan Wijeratne.
