Fifth Golden Battle: Rajapakse Central College, Weeraketiya will play
their 5th Golden Battle of Ruhuna when they take on Vijitha Central
College, Dickwella on April 4 and 5 at the Rajapaksa International
Cricket Ground, Sooriyawewa. A win is what both teams long for as the
previous four matches have been drawn.
The previous four encounters between the two schools have ended in
draws and the two teams are keen to force a draw this year.
Vijitha Central's Mahela Nambuhewa made 103 not out at last year's
encounter at the Uyanwatte Stadium is the highest score in this clash.
In bowling, Rajapaksa Central's Charith Sawaththara's six wicket haul in
the third encounter played at Sooriyawewa is the highest number of
wickets taken by a bowler in one innings.
Vijitha Central is captained this year by third-year coloursman
Priveen Abeysinghe who is well known for his allround displays and was
picked as the Man of the Match at last year's match. He bats right
handed and bowls right-arm off-spin. The vice-captain of the side is
third year coloursman Shashik Praveen.
Rajapakse Central will have third year coloursman Nalaka Sandaruwan
as captain. He is a left-hand batsman and is also the wicket-keeper of
the zide. Yasanga Madusara who is a member of the Hambantota District U.
19 team is the vice-captain of the team. He is a third year coloursman. |
